    The Mona Lisa
Leonardo had begun working on one of his greatest masterpieces, "The Mona Lisa" in 1503. This artwork was a portrait of a woman seated in front of beautiful scenery. Many people assume that the top half of the woman's face was actually Leo's face in his youth (this has not been proved). Others say that it is a painting of Florentine Lisa Gherardini. That is why the painting is also known as "The Gioconda". The painting is significant because it was one of his greatest accomplishments.
