  • 1954- Brown vs. Board of Topeka

    Helped establish the precedent that “separate-but-equal” education. Oliver Brown filed a class-action suit against the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, in 1951, after his daughter, Linda Brown, was denied entrance to Topeka’s all-white elementary schools.
  • 1964- Civil Rights Act

    The Civil Rights Act advocates for equality for all. Legislation that prohibits racial discrimination. This protects all ethnicities from racial inequality. Everyone (any race) would be protected under this law. This allows everyone to have an equal opportunity for education and work.
