Born in new zealand in 1995, laura has been involved with the sea since her mom´s belly-actually, her parents were on a long sailing journey around the world when she was born. her family only returned to their home country, holland, when she was five -

in holland, laura began to nurture a love for sailing. at the age of six, she sailed alone for the first time and has been participating in sailing competitions since then. four years later, she bought her first boat, using money saved from doing jobs and chores, and sailed it around the north sea and holland. -

the idea of solo circumnavigation came up after the trip to england. when she was getting ready fot the challenging journey, the dutch government claimed she was too young to do it. laura and her father went to court, and in july, 2010, she won the right to make the trip. -
