Latter Day Saint Movement(Mormonism)

  • First alleged meeting between Angel Moroni and Joseph

Moroni was considered a guiding figure, appearing to Smith through visions to guide him to golden plates that were said to hold the original translation of the Book of Mormon. He was told of Hill Cumorah and made several journeys to retrieve the plates and begin his work translating the ancient texts.

  • The Word of Wisdom was fully revealed to Smith

Also known as the Mormon Extermination Order, this action called for the Missouri state militia to either be exterminated or driven out because of their detriment to the public peace. This forced them to relocate to Illinois.
  • The death of Joseph Smith(and his brother)

A long story of Smith enacting martial law as governor of Nauvoo, he destroys an anti-mormon press building and is eventually taken to Carthage jail alongside his brother. The jail is then bombarded by a riot of 200 men and his brother(hyrum) dies almost immediately and involves Joseph with attempting to escape from a second floor window and being shot by a makeshift firing squad. Considered as martyrs in present times.
  • The settling of Utah

With the death of Joseph Smith, the church was in turmoil for years and a large majority moved westward along what is now called "The Mormon Trail" and wound up in present-day Salt Lake City. They established an unofficial state(State of Deseret)and was rejected by Congress.
  • Utah War

A year-long conflict that involved the US Army and armed Mormons resulted in negotiations for the transferrence of power to a different governer in Utah and for the US Army to be allowed through Utah.
  • International LDS Churches

During this time between the founding of Utah and the second world war, the church and its faith were spread to other countries, such as Germany. During Hitler's regime, Mormons avoided persecution and had a split opinion on the dictator himself.
