Congress passed a bill saying the Missouri could be added as a slave state as long as slavery was banned in the rest of the Louisiana Purchase. The addition of Missouri to the United States would break the balance of the North and the SOuth since there was 11 states eah.

Escape slave Dred Scott went to court claiming he deserved freedom. He was denied bcause the judge claimed that slaves were't allowed citizenship because they were considered property.

A series bates between of political debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A Douglas during their run for a seat in the Illinois senate. Douglas supported popullar sovereignty and made the Kansass-Nebraska Act. However, Lincoln said the US would not survive being half pro slave and half anti slave.
