Széchenyi was a moderate reformer. He opposed radicalism and nationalism.
His father was Széchenyi Ferenc, his mother was Festetics Júlia.
He was a member of the Upper House. He bacame the minister of the Batthyány government. -
Széchenyi found the Hungarian Learned Society, and later the Academy of Sciences. Plus later he found the National Casino.

Széchenyi offered the interests of his annual income of his estates for the promotion of national culture and the support of the Hungarian language.

He encouraged horse racing. His aim was to make the people socialize. He initiated a new permanent bridge. (Chain Bridge) He had a slogan called: 'Motherland and progress'. -
