    Korea had been a colony of Japan until Japan's surrender to the Allies in WWII. Korea did not have a native government, so after debates during the month of August, the US and the USSR agreed to split Korea along the 38th parallel.The USSR would control the North and the US would control the South.

    The UN had planned on holding Democratic elections throughout Korea to help reunite it, but the Soviet Union refused to allow North Korea to participate. South Korea held their own elections and adopted a democratic government, but North Korea was communist controlled.

    North Korea invades South Korea, starting the Korean War. It is still debated about whether North Korea acted with Stalin's approval.

    The United States orders air and naval support be sent to aid South Korea, and also gains the support of the UN. General Douglas MacArthur is put in charge of all UN operations.

    The US launches a surprise attack, landing behind North Korean lines and pushing them back to the North of the 38th Parallel.
  • Pyongyang captured

    Pyongyang captured
    US forces had entered North Korea in early October, and finally worked their way into the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. This weakened the North Koreans, and their forces began to disintegrate.
  • Seoul falls to the North

    On 4th January 1951 Seoul was captured by Chinese North Korean troops. 4000,000 Chinese and 1000,000 North Korean Soldiers died in the process.
  • Seoul recaptured by the South

    Seoul recaptured by the South
    After being captured by the North, Seoul was recaptured by the South. After this the war got dead-locked with no major gains for 2 years after. The American forces became engaged in house-to-house combat that destroyed much of the city. Allied command dutifully announced the liberation of Seoul on the 25th. However, it was not until September 27 that Marines reached the Capitol building of Seoul.
  • MacArthur Dismissed

    MacArthur Dismissed
    Before MacArthur is dismissed he is very arrogant. He tries to get permission to use nuclear weapons against the Chinese. After several warnings of insubordination, Truman has enough of MacArthur and dismisses him of his duties.
  • Armistice

    Armistice
    The front line was not moving at all. After this the war got dead-locked with no major gains for 2 years after. Not a truce in the war but the Armistice said that they would stop fighting. This was basicly the end of the war.
