Taewon'gun
Taewon'gun was born in 1821 and he died in 1898. He was son to King Kojong. He was too young to take the throne so his father ruled the kingdom in his place. Wehn he did take the throne, he wanted to close Korea from any outside contact. His leadership was judged to be weak. -
Meiji Restoration
The Meiji Restoration began in 1868 and ended in 1912. It began as a result of the Tokugawa Era coming to an end. The Meiji Restoration allowed Japan to grow as a nation and become very powerful. -
Sino-Japanese War
The Tonghak Rebellion was the main cause for the SIno-Japanese War. The war ended in result of the Treaty of Shimonoseki which eventually led to the annexation of Korea.
