When Amir and Hassan saw Assef and his boys Hassan said,"Please leave us alone, Agha."(42) Here Hassan is stepping up for Amir with his slingshot. This shows how Hassan steps up to help Amir because they are friends.

When Hassan sees Assef and his friends in the alley, Assef "drops his underwear and positioned himself behind Hassan."(75) This is what changed Amir's life. Amir could have done something like Hassan did for him but Amir was to much of a coward.

When Amir won the Kite tournament Hassan said to him, "You won, Amir agha!" (66) This was big because Amir did it for Baba. This also leads to the thing that changes Amir's life, so this is good and bad.

When Amir was sleeping he felt guilty and yelled out, "I watched Hassan get raped." No one heard him because everyone was asleep. Here he gets insomnia because he cant forget that scene with Hassan, and the thought that he could have done something.

When Hassan wouldn't hurt Amir with the pomegranat, so Amir can sleep again, Amir said, "What am I going to do with you."(92) This is when Amir and Hassan grow farther apart from each other. Hassan is too loyal to Amir and Amir doesn't feel right with him seeing Hassan get raped.

When Baba threw him the big party and gave him nice presents, he didn't want it because "it was all blood money." He realizes that Baba would not have threw him the party if he lost. They grow farther apart and this is one of the signs.

Amir realizes he did something bad when he tried to frame Hassan for stealing and in return, Amir had to "watch Baba's car pull out." (109) This is when Ali and Hassan leave. This is a big turning point for Amir that later affects him very big.

Since there was to much violence in their home, they had to "leave Kabul." (110) There is too much danger in their home and sadly they have to leave. Amir is growing farther and farther from the life he used to have.

Baba and Amir "loved the idea of America" (125) so they ended up moving there. This gives Baba health problems because it is different there. Amir has grown farther from his past life and how it used to be.

When Amir remembers when they got married he says, "I remember our nika." (170) A nika is the ceremony part where they do their swearing. It is nice for Amir to get married and he wonders if Hassan got married.

Amir chooses a college and he gets "accepted into San Jose State." (181) He majors in English and hopes to go far in that. Amir is smart and wants to get a good job.

When Amir and Soraya put Baba to bed one night, "Amir never woke up."(173) This is sad because not to long ago Amir just got married and also Baba was listening to Amir's writing. Amir still has Soraya though to live a happy life.

When Raheem Khan was sick, Amir decided to go to Packistan so he "set aboard a Packistan International Airlines flight." (194) He is faithful to Raheem when he is sick and he goes back and he doesn't care that it is dangerous. Maybe Amir is doing this to be a good friend, not like how he was with Hassan.

When Amir is in Packistan he learns that Hassan was "shot in the back of the head." (219) Amir is shocked and feels a big hole because he feels he didn't repay him for being such a good friend. In return Amir tries to save his son.
