In Kabul at night,"they hadn't shot much of anything."(36) This is the beginning of what is to come in Kabul. It doesn't seem like much now but it will be later. -
Encountering Assef
When Amir and Hassan saw Assef and his boys Hassan said,"Please leave us alone, Agha."(42) Here Hassan is stepping up for Amir with his slingshot. This shows how Hassan steps up to help Amir because they are friends. -
Hassan gets raped
When Hassan sees Assef and his friends in the alley, Assef "drops his underwear and positioned himself behind Hassan."(75) This is what changed Amir's life. Amir could have done something like Hassan did for him but Amir was to much of a coward. -
Amir winning the Kite Tournament
When Amir won the Kite tournament Hassan said to him, "You won, Amir agha!" (66) This was big because Amir did it for Baba. This also leads to the thing that changes Amir's life, so this is good and bad. -
Amir becoming an insomniac
When Amir was sleeping he felt guilty and yelled out, "I watched Hassan get raped." No one heard him because everyone was asleep. Here he gets insomnia because he cant forget that scene with Hassan, and the thought that he could have done something. -
Amir grows farther from Hassan
When Hassan wouldn't hurt Amir with the pomegranat, so Amir can sleep again, Amir said, "What am I going to do with you."(92) This is when Amir and Hassan grow farther apart from each other. Hassan is too loyal to Amir and Amir doesn't feel right with him seeing Hassan get raped. -
Amir realizes Baba doesn't really care
When Baba threw him the big party and gave him nice presents, he didn't want it because "it was all blood money." He realizes that Baba would not have threw him the party if he lost. They grow farther apart and this is one of the signs. -
Ali and Hassan leave Amir and Baba
Amir realizes he did something bad when he tried to frame Hassan for stealing and in return, Amir had to "watch Baba's car pull out." (109) This is when Ali and Hassan leave. This is a big turning point for Amir that later affects him very big. -
Soviet troops parachuting into Kabul
The first Soviet troops "parachuted into Kabul, to assist Babrak Karmal." (2) -
Amir and Baba leave their home
Since there was to much violence in their home, they had to "leave Kabul." (110) There is too much danger in their home and sadly they have to leave. Amir is growing farther and farther from the life he used to have. -
Amir and Baba move to America
Baba and Amir "loved the idea of America" (125) so they ended up moving there. This gives Baba health problems because it is different there. Amir has grown farther from his past life and how it used to be. -
Amir and Soraya get married
When Amir remembers when they got married he says, "I remember our nika." (170) A nika is the ceremony part where they do their swearing. It is nice for Amir to get married and he wonders if Hassan got married. -
Amir going into San Jose State
Amir chooses a college and he gets "accepted into San Jose State." (181) He majors in English and hopes to go far in that. Amir is smart and wants to get a good job. -
Baba dies
When Amir and Soraya put Baba to bed one night, "Amir never woke up."(173) This is sad because not to long ago Amir just got married and also Baba was listening to Amir's writing. Amir still has Soraya though to live a happy life. -
Soviet troops leaving Afghanistan
They left Afghanistan "after peace talks moderated by the United Nations." (2) -
Mullah Omar's men getting weapons
The beginning of 1994 Pakistani officers "began funneling arms, to Mullah Omar's men." (3) -
Mullah Omar growing
The end of 1994 "Mullah Omar had nearly 12,000 followers." (2) -
Taliban taking over
In 1996, "the Taliban had taken control of Afghanistan." (3) -
Amir goes back to Packistan
When Raheem Khan was sick, Amir decided to go to Packistan so he "set aboard a Packistan International Airlines flight." (194) He is faithful to Raheem when he is sick and he goes back and he doesn't care that it is dangerous. Maybe Amir is doing this to be a good friend, not like how he was with Hassan. -
Amir learns Hassan is dead
When Amir is in Packistan he learns that Hassan was "shot in the back of the head." (219) Amir is shocked and feels a big hole because he feels he didn't repay him for being such a good friend. In return Amir tries to save his son. -
Invasion on Afghanistan
The US sent attacks that "succesfully dislodged Al Qaeda and removing the Taliban from power." (1) -

on Sept. 11, 2001, "there was an attack on the World Trade Center in New York." (3) -

Hamid Karzai a supporter of Mohammad, "was named chairman." (3) -
Hamid Karzai takes power
In June 2002, " Hamid Karzai was named interim president." (3) -
Obama's plan
President Obama announced "to deploy 30,000 additional troops." (4)
