    Hassan gets surgery for his cleft lip. Hassan was smiling. just as he had smerging from his mother's womb." (p. 47) proving that he was happy about his surgery but there would be a faint scar on his lip.
  • Hassan get sexually harassed

    Hassan get sexually harassed Assef which is a life changing event for Amir. Amir is scared for life by the horriftying event that "[Amir] was afraid of Assef and what he would do to me." (p.77)
  • Soviet Invaded Afghanistan

    Afghanistan was a stable country before the Soviets invaded Afghanistan and Soviet troops "stayed in the country for more than nine years" (2).
  • Amir and Baba leave

    Amir and Baba leave Jalalaban because the Soviets are invading Jalalaban. '"We're in Pakistan, Amir'" (p.123) said Baba while they were leaving Jalalaban for Pakistan on their way for America.
  • Kamal's father's suicide

    Kamal's father commits suicide due to Kamal's death. Kamal's father was devasted by the death of his son, he "shoved the barrel in his own mouth." (p.124)
  • Amir and Baba move

    Amir and Baba move to Fairmont, California in the 1980's. Baba and "loved the idea of America." (p.125) since they have a chance of starting over again.
  • Baba diagnosed with cancer

    Baba is diagnosed with lung whick shocks Amir. Amir is shocked and scarced when he finds out that "[Baba's got a shot on his right lung." (p.154)
  • Amir and Soraya marry

    Amir and Soraya gets married right before Baba dies to fufill his dream. Amir and Soraya doesn't know might about each other but Amir knows he "loves her" (p.171)
  • Amir's marriage

    Baba finally gives Amir permission to marry Soraya. Amir and Soraya "is happy,[they] don't know what to say." (p.165) because it means that they can finally start a family.
  • Baba dies

    Baba "never woke up" (p. 173), he died of lung cancer. Shortly after Amir's marriage to Soraya.
  • Amir's novel

    Amir publishes his first novel. Amir's novel was "released in the summer of that following year." (p.183) proving that his career of an author has began.
  • Soviet troops leaves Afghanistan

    Since after 9 years of invading, the "last Afghanistan in February 1989" (2).
  • Pakistani intelligence officers help Mullah Omar's men

    Pakistani intelligence officers began "funneling arms, money, and supplies to Mullah Omar's men" (3).
  • Taliban gain control

    By the summer of 1994, the Taliban slowly gains controls and is trying to "dedicated to purifying the counrty" (2).
  • Mullah Omar's followers

    Mullah Omar "had nearly 12,000 followers and was rolling up the warlords to the north and east" and promising that he will restore the "centrality of Islam to daily life" (2)
  • Taliban taken control of Afghanistan

    By the 1996, the Taliban has taken control of Afghanistan by "imposing strict enforcement of fundamentalist Islamic law, banning movies and music and forcing women out of schools and into all-enveloping burqa clothing" (3)
  • Rahim Khan calls Amir

    Rahim Khan calls Amir to tell him about his past and that he had known. Rahim Khan had said that " he knew about Assef, the kite, and the money. (p.192)
  • Amir returns home with Sohrab

    Amir returns home with Sohrab from Pakistan. Amir takes Sohrab home to adopted him since Amir and Soraya couldn't have kids and Soraya having "tears over a little, i had a glimpse of the mother she might have been." (p.358)
  • Attack of the World Trade Center

    On September 11, 2001, the Taliban attacked the World Trade Center and U.S asked "theTaliban an ultimatum to hand over Mr. bin Laden". (3)
  • Amir and Sohrab fly the kite

    Amir and Sohrab fly the kite, like Amir and Hassan when they were younger. Amir had thought about Hassan and how "he'd run kites and never look up at the sky." (p.368) which brought back memories of their childhood.
  • Hamid Karzai elected President

    Hamid Karzai become Afghanistan's president and hoped that he will "secure peace for Afghanistan and win the country much-needed international aid" (3).
  • Obama's plan

    Obama announces that he vowed "to start bringing American forces home from Afghanistanin the middle of 2011" (4).
  • Obama moving deadline

    Obama's administration has "in creasingly emphasize the idea that the United States will have forces in the country until at least of the end of 2014" (4).
  • Amir's flashback

    Amir and Hassan were good friends in the past and Amir just has flashbacks of Hassan. Memories of Hassan making he think that "Hassan's calloused hands, our eyes turned up tp the kite in the sky." (p.122)
  • Amir graduates

    Finally Amir graduates from high school in America. Amir graduates "from high school at the age of twenty." (p.131)
