Baba was born "in 1933..." (24). If Baba wasn't born, then Amir wouldn't have been born, and this whole story couldn't exist. Baba is such a big character in the book, if he didn't exist it would change everything.

When Amir was around the age of 5, "... Baba decided to build an orphanage... [He eventually] succeeded and everyone shook their heads in awe at his triumphant ways" (13). This quote is important because it shows how Baba gained everyones respect in the village. After creating this orphanage, Baba became a role model that everyone looked up to.

In 1964, "... Sanaubar gave birth to [Hassan] one cold winter day..." (6). This quote is important because if it wasn't here, it would change the whole entire story. Hassan is a key character in The Kite Runner, so him not being born would alter everything.

Amir "...turned thirteen [the] summer of 1976, Afghanistan's next to last summer of peace and anonymity" (93). This quote shows how much time has gone by after many incidents occurred. Also, by thirteen, most children are becoming more mature and this quote intrigues the reader to see how Amir responsible will become.

Amir decided not to help Hassan because he saw the blue kite, " [His] key to Baba's heart" (71). Instead of going and helping Hassan, Amir decides to be selfish. He would rather think of himself than help his friend.

Remembering back, Amir tthought that, "Baba loved the idea of America. It was living in AMerica that gave him an ulcer" (125). This quote is important because it shows how excited Baba was to move to America. But, in the end, he ended up not enjoying it because he didn't have the same respect as he did in Afghanistan.

In the summer of 1983, "... [Amir] graduated from high school at the age of twenty, by far the oldest senior tossing his mortarboard on the football field that day" (131). This quote shows how different America is compared to Afghanistan. There's better education, which allowed Amir to graduate even though he was older.

When talking to Soraya, Amir asks, "Would you like to read one of my stories?" (147). To try to make it not that obvious, Amir just pretends that he's only there to talk to her father. However, when Soraya's father gets there, Amir just gets shooed off.

After Baba goes to the doctor, he discovers that he has a "Oat Cell Carcinoma." (156). This dramatically affects Amir's life because it's his father dying. Since there is no real cure, Baba just says no to chemotherepy.

After Baba's passing, "... Soraya and [Amir] moved into a one-bedroom apartment Fremont, just a few blocks away from the general and Khala Jamila's house" (180). This shows that, instead of sulking around, Amir chose to keep living his life. He and Soraya began their life as a married couple

In 1986, Amir "... went to Hazarajat to find Hassan..." (203). Amir went to Hazarjat because he was lonely. All of his relatives were killed or ran away to another place.
