    Afghanistan was first a monarchy ruled by King Zahir Shah. One day when the King was on vacation, Mohammad Daoud Khan seized power. He was Zahir’s cousin and a former prime minister of Afghanistan. The military overthrowing was nearly bloodless, but as we can see throw Amir’s story. It was still a scary time for the people of Kabul who heard the rioting and shooting.

In The Kite Runner you can see how the Taliban uses fear and violence to control them
