Key Events Of The Holocaust

  • Hitler Becomes Leader

    Hitler is elected Chancellor of Germany
  • Germany's Parliament Burns down

    the Reichstag building mysteriously burns down, Hitler blames communists and is able to arrest thousands of his political opponents. Though it is believed that Hitler set this building on fire himself.
  • Dachau Concentration Camp opens

    Dachau concentration camp is the first camp to open, it only holds several thousand political opponents who were accused of starting the Reichstag fire in a plan to overthrow the government.
  • Nuremberg Laws are passed

    New laws are past, Jews are no longer German citizens and lose all their rights, they are denied jobs and are banned from having any sexual relations with an Aryan (a person with blond hair and blue eyes of Germanic heritage)
  • Kristallnacht

    Kristallnacht (night of broken glass) happens, Nazi supporters and 'storm troopers' attack Jewish people and their Businesses for one night. Hundreds are killed and many business never reopen
  • Germany invades Poland

    Nazis invade Poland were 3.35 million Jewish people live They are forced to live in Ghettos and were yellow stars so they are recognisable. Germany starts talking about getting rid of the Jewish problem for good.
  • SS Einsatzgruppen (Hitlers elite troops)

    Hitlers troops are sent to accompany soldiers invading eastern Europe. They have been ordered to kill and terrorize Jews. Thousands are shot in badly organised massacres and many SS officers are reported to have committed suicide haunted my there actions
  • Final solution

    Hitler and his top advisers decide they need to think of a 'final solution to the Jewish problem'. They decide to expand there concentration camps into death camps and millions of Jews are transported to these camps to be killed
