    He sailed to Canada sometime in July of 1912, while leaving behind Polly who was about six months pregnant. His leaving was mainly due to issues with money and problems that happened with Polly's brother Archie. Jack says he will only be gone at the most a year. To start off his trip he boards a steamer in Liverpool. From Halifax in Canada he goes onto a train headed for Saskatoon, his final destination.

    As soon as Jack heard about the war starting in Europe he tried to enlist but was denied due to his lungs. Two weeks later he saw an ad for the RNWMP and went to the Prince Albert detachment to enlist. He went through many physical training exercises before finally graduating through. Afterwards he became the policeman for Blaine Lake in July of 1915. Here was where he met Jessie Patterson.

    At the end of the summer of 1917 Jack went to visit a doctor because of his bad health in the last few months. The doctor told him he had TB and Jack was terrified. When he told his superior of his illness he was discharged. The Pattersons ended up halping Jack and looking after her over the winter. Near the end of that winter Jack asked Jessie Patterson to marry him. Over the winter he started to recover.

    Polly had not heard from Jack since last June and was very worried. She tells her family she will go to Canada to find out what has happened to Jack. Some of her family members think Jack has died. Polly boards a ship in April and is thinking of the past sunken ship the Lustania. When she arrives in Halix she boards a train to Regina, which she gets to on the 18th. From there she calls the MP headquarters and gets transferred to the PA detachement where she finally talks to Jack.

    Instead of taking Polly to the house he had told her about, he takes her for a drive to go with him on some work business. He later changes the plans again and says they will go to talk to Jessie in Blaine Lake. After stopping to shoot a goose Jack turns the gun on Polly and shoots her in the head. Jack freaks out and drives back and forth from the murder scene until he stops at the culvert and digs her a shallow grave there. As he is trying to drive away his car catches on fire.

    Jack decided to take Polly with him on a roadtrip to finish some work instead of taking her to the house in Saskatoon. He changes the plans again during the trip and says that instead of work they will go see Jessie in Blaine Lake. After stopping to shoot a goose Jack then turns the gun towards Polly and shoots her in the head, Jack freaks out and drives back and forth with Polly in the car. He stops at a culvert and burries her. As he is driving away his car catches on fire.
