    Gale knew that Katniss would be concerned that Prim might be picked in the reaping. By bringing her the bread, he tries to calm her down and stop her from worrying too much about the reaping.

    Peeta's father knew that it would not be easy for Katniss to say good-bye to everyone, especially Prim. He has grown to be fond of Prim over the years of trading bread for goat cheese with her, and promises Katniss he will try to help take care of her sister. Considering that he knows Katniss will have to fight his son, the baker's kind gesture displays how he truly cares for Prim, which helps reduce the stress Katniss is experiencing.

    Cinna's costumes made Peeta and Katniss stand out at the opening ceremony of the Hunger Games. By having them both appear friendly and dazzle the crowd with their costumes, Cinna improved their chance at getting support from sponsors. This was a critical factor in the Games, as a sponsor's gift could save a tribute's life.
  • Peeta confesses his love for Katniss at the interviews

    While Peeta was telling the truth, he also got the attention of the audience to be turned to him and Katniss. Sponsors were all over the lovers from District Twelve, and it gave Katniss an edge she wouldn't have had otherwise.
  • Peeta teams up with the "Career" tributes early in the Games

    Peeta was trying to help Katniss by joining the Careers. He would be able to learn their weaknesses, steer them away from where he might suspect Katniss to be, and potentially lure them into traps. This would help Katniss establish herself in the arena's enviroment, and be in less danger of the Careers finding her.
  • Haymitch dosen't send Katniss a spoonsor's gift when she is desperate for water

    When Katniss was extremely dehydrated, Haymitch did not send her a silver parachute with help. By doing so , he sent her a message that water was nearby, and she found a place to rest for the time being. Katniss was also able to display her resourcefulness to potential sponsors by finding a water source herself.
  • Rue tells Katniss about the tracker jacker nest

    If Rue truly intended to hurt Katniss, she could have dropped the nest onto Katniss herself. By instead telling Katniss about the nest, she saves Katniss' life, and stops the careers from getting her.
  • Peeta tells Katniss to run when the "Careers" are coming for her

    By telling Katniss to run, and not attacking her, Peeta warned her of the immediate danger and gave away the fact that he originally planned to save her. Katniss realized that he saved her life just before she passes out from the tracker jackers.
  • Haymitch and her sponsors send Katniss the sleep syrup for Peeta

    By sending Katniss the syrup, they allow her to go to the feast and get the medicine necessary to save Peeta. If they had not sent anything, Katniss would most likely have not gone to the feast, and Peeta would have died.
  • Thresh kills Clove and lets Katniss live

    Thresh could have easily killed Katniss and improved his chances at winning the Hunger Games. However, since he knew Katniss helped Rue, he saved her from Clove and let her go save Peeta.
