Kafka was born in Prague, Czechia to a German Jewish family. Because of the fact that Kafkas family was Jewish and lived in predominantly low income Jewish neighborhoods they were rejected from German Minority groups. Kafka was often sick as a child and likely didn’t have a pleasant home life due to the fact that his father was often displeased with current events as well as the people around him, this created a toxic relationship between Kafka and his father.

After 2 weeks of studying chemistry at what was then the Charles Ferdinand University of Prague he switched his major to law. Although he grew up in a Jewish household and neighborhood Kafka gravitated more towards the german language and culture.

Kafka instructed Brod to destroy his manuscripts after he died; instead Brod edited and published them.

After getting his Doctorate in law, Kafka found a job with Richard Löwy on Old Time Square. Kafkas father put p[pressure on him to find a powerful place in society. With the pressure of success, Kafka decided it was best to graduate quickly so that he could jump quickly into the workforce.

When Kafka wrote “The Metamorphosis” it is thought that he was likely suffering from fatigue both due to his work load and his lack of sleep. Around the time of writing his book he wrote his friend Max Brod about contemplating suicide.

Kafka wrote the letter to his father at the height of conflict due to marriage. Kafkas father was both abusive and narcissistic and Kafka felt as though he could not escape him without marrying which his father was preventing rom happening. His father refused to support any possible marriage that would not bring Kafka financial success which prevented Kafka from accessing his independence regarding relationships.

In 1922 Kafka was suffering from his illness and therefor retired from working as a lawyer. Kafka was incredibly self deprecating during this time due to the fact that he thought he was lacking in success. This was painful not only because he hadn’t succeeded the way he wanted as a writer but also as a lawyer and professional. Kafka wrote “Hunger Artist” about artistic burn out and the event of society moving on without acknowledgment of trend.

Kafka Wrote the castle within the end of his life, he never finished the story because he died while writing it. The story is about a man named “K” who goes to a kingdom looking for the empower. The story is redundant and doesn’t seem extremely directed, within the story K also struggles with women and heart break. The story likely reflects regret and depression Kafka was experiencing in the end of his career.

Due to his worsening health, Kafka moved from Berlin back to Prague.
