  • June 12,2013: Basic Trust vs Mistrust

    Ethan, age 1, by my son's first birthday, would he be truly comfortable with me being away for periods of time, as he learned over time that I would always come back for him when he needed me. The crisis in this stage is between either, learning to trust (basic trust) the caregiver, usually the mother, or not being able to trust (mistrust) the caregiver due to signs of neglect or abuse.
  • June 12, 2016: Autonomy vs Shame & Doubt

    Ethan, age 4, became more comfortable exploring and engaging with his environment as I continued to encourage his curiosity. The crisis of this stage is between toddlers who are either, encouraged to invoke their own free will (autonomy) in exploring, or who are restricted (discouraged) from exploring that as a result start to feel guilt or shame (doubt).
  • June 12,2023: Industry vs Inferiority

    Ethan, who is 11 years old, now understands that he is unique, with his own interests, and is hardworking both at home and at school. The crisis in this stage is either between children that are encouraged to try and explore (industry) or some who are discouraged in developing skillsets or viewed in a negative aspect (inferiority).
