Only one year after their marrige, Mable gives birth to John Tolkein. He is born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Where Authur (his father) is working at the local bank.After much debate he took on Mable and Authur's family middle names. He was known as John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. -

Authur Tolkien, Ronald's Father dies in Bloemfontein South Africa. He was the manager at the local bank. This happens while Ronald, his mother and brother(Hilary) are in England. The family moves to Sarehole,Birminhham -
Big Changes
Mabel Converts to catholicism and Ronald and his brother Hilary are taught life lessons by Father Francis Morgan. None of Mabel's Family accepts this change and basically disowns her. Father Francis plays a big role in raising Ronald and Hilary.The Family Moves again to Central Birmingham. -
R.I.P Mabel Tolkien
Mabel falls ill to diabetes at age 34. And death follows shortly after because at that time there was no treatment for it.Tolkien goes on for the rest of his life partly blaming her family for not accepting her converting to Catholicism. Ronald and his brother continue living at the church with Father Francis. -
Love is in the air
Tolkien begins love affair with Edith Bratt (three years older). Because of all the time he spend with Edith he failed his entrance exam to Oxbridge university. Father Francis forces a separation between Tolkien and Edith. But because of their love the seperation did not last. -
Second times the charm
Ronald takes two attempts to pass the Oxbridge Entrance exam. He succeeds in the second attempt. He is then offered an exhibition to exeter college. Where he begins his studies. -
With *Second* Honours
Tolkien earns second class honours at Oxbridge. Because of this he gets to see Edith again. He then changes his course to read for the honour school of English Language and Literature. Where he spend only a year -
Two rings to rule them all
Edith converts Catholicism upon Ronalds request. They become engaged in the same month. Britain declares war on germany and the first world war begins. Ron returns to a near empty university -
Off you go
Ronald and Edith are married on this day in Warwick,UK. On June 4th Ronald is shipped off to france with the britten army. On the 14th of july Ron finally see action on the frontlines. Sadly on November 14th he is sent home with trench fever -
First Son
Tolkein's First son John is born. -
"W"
The first world war has come to an end. Later that month Tolkien moves himself Edith and his son John to Oxford. Tolkien is offered the job to write the "W" section for the new english dictionary. Because of his passion for old languages studing the roots of "W" words was enjoyable. -
First Teaching Job
Tolkein accepts Posistion of Reader in English Language at Leeds University. In October his second Son Michael, is born. And in December he starts to write father christmas letters to his sons. This is said to be the start of his writing career. -
Professor Tolkien
Tolkien is appointed Professor of English Language at Leeds University. He had his third child. He named him Christopher. Christopher would go on to edit the history of middle earth (12 volumes), Middle earth is where the Hobbit would take place. -
Professor Again
Tolkien is appointed Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford University. In the springTolkien Form the Coalbitters.This is a group that discusses and writes old Icelandic text. In the summer Tolkien becomes friends with C.S Lewis ( who would go on to write the the Lion,Witch and the Wardrobe) -
Daughter
Tolkien's Daughter Pirscilla is born. -
Inklings
The Inklings begin having meetings at a local bar. The Inklings was a group where the members would discuss old literature and present their own written pieces.This group would become famous due to two of the members (Tolkien and C.S Lewis) Becoming famous later on. This is because their works that would become famous would have been read at meetings. -

Father Francis Morgan Passes away at age 78. -
The Hobbit (or there and back again)
Alleged to have started seven years earlier, The Hobbit is realsed in Britten. And then two years later to the US where is was awarded The new york herald tribute award . Late December He starts writting the Lord of the rings, the follow up to the Hobbit and would be his most successful series of writings.
