He graduated from Kenyon College with a double major in English and religious studies.

Green lived for several years in Chicago where he worked for a book magazine called Booklist. Once there, he reviewed hundreds of books of all varieties, his specialty was based on reviewing fictional literature, books on Islam, and books on Siamese twins.

His book Looking for Alaska came out.

Also in 2006 he won the Printz Award for his debut novel Looking for Alaska which was inspired by his time at Indian Springs School.

He is also known for his YouTube videos. Green started in 2007 with the launch of the Vlogbrothers channel, which he runs alongside his brother, Hank Green. Since then Green has launched events such as Project for Awesome and VidCon, and created a total of 11 online series together with his brother, such as Crash Course, an educational literature, history, and science YouTube channel.
