At battle of bull Run (Battle of Manassas) John lost a friend. Johns friend patrick died. Patrick died from improper care for his leg wound. John was devasted but he learned to cope and keep going.

Christmas in the ConfederacyThe first Christmas of the Civil War. John and his fellow soldiers have plenty to eat at camp. Many people got drunk! The confederate soldiers had a great time despite the longing of home.

ClothingDuring Christmas many of the soldiers got clothes, and gifts. John decided to sell his vest he got. He sold is for $3.50. Quickly after there time off for Christmas they were back. They had to work at nighttime to prevent shooting from the Union army.

Ambush The Union soldiers tried to ambush the Confederate soldiers. John noticed the ariving soldiers and warned everyone. The Union quickly ran away noticing they didnt stand a chance with all of the Confederate troops.

civillian deathsJohn was leaving Rommney and moving onto a new camp. As the troops were passing they saw a mudered shoe maker. They saw a woman holding onto her children crying because the Union soldiers had killed her husband and burnt her house down. John writes to his girlfriend about how sad it was.

Sergeants in the Civil WarEarly February was when John became a Sergent. John is the 3rd Sergeant in his company. Each company had a 1st Sergeant and four other Sergeants. Sergeants were given more respect than corporals.

Robert E LeeDuring the Battle Seven Pines in Virginia, Robert E. Lee takes over command of the Confederate troops after Joseph E. Johnston was wounded.

Normal supplies we take for granted were running extremely low for the Confederacy. Socks, soap, and even water were hard to find. -
Pay
The troops get an extra 17 dollars. John writes home very happy. -
Ambushes during the Civil War
John and some other experienced soldiers plan a small sneak attack on the north. It was a success. It was so small it was unnamed. No confederate soldiers were harmed including John. -
Battle of Gettysburg
John Fought in this battle. General Lee attacked the Union center on Cemetery Ridge. John talked about the devastaiting number of deaths. -

Food Rations began to decrease. John was jealous of the Union soldiers that seemed to always have food. Many Confederate soldiers like John were hungry most of the time

Soldiers and snow
The south was hit with late snow. Many people in Johns regiment including himslef enjoyed a good snowfight. John wrote home telling about joy, and happiness he hasnt felt in a long time. Little moments like this made war a little more bearable for soldiers. -
Appomattox Campaign
This conflict in the civil war ended in less than a month. It started in March 29th 1865 and ended in April 9th 1865. General E. Lee did not succeed in making his point to the Union. His plan backfired and he was forced to Surrender. -
War Ends
The Civil war has ended. Confederate soldiers are slowly being sent home. Even though The war ended in May most soldiers didnt get home until at least June.
