    During the Civil War Hiram Berdan developed a plan to come up with a regiment. Since Berdan had political connections, he didn't have alot of diffculties getting his idea approved. Then his plan came true and he was appointed the Colonel of the 1st regiment United States Sharpshooters.

The 1st regiment (commanded by Col. Bernard) received theirs in May, and the 2nd regiment (commanded by Col. Henry A. Post) received theirs in June.

    Reynolds then got the position to command of the Army at the Potomac, because Joseph Hooker's defeat at Chancerllorsville. There was a catch though. Reynolds asked Lincoln if he could plan a movement that wouldn'y interfer with Washington. Lincoln said no, Reynolds declined.

    John F. Renyolds died on July 1, 1863 at the age of 42 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was a commander at Gettysburg and was given a odered issued by General Meade, so his army advanced. Reynolds then died at the begininng of the battle.
