In 1708 Bach got a job to play in a court orchestra for Duke Wilhelm Ernest. During the next nine years he bacame the best organist of Germany and he wanted the job to derict the orchestra at Weimar but he didn't. the son of Duke Wilhelm Ernest got the job. So Bach wanted to quit his job but he was not allowed too. Bach argued with the Duke so the Duke put him in jail.
