He was born n 18th July 1918 in Mvezo, El Cabo, South Africa.

He lived with his mother and two sisters in Qunu, where his mother looked after the cattle. He didn´t live with his father because he was working.When he was 7 years his mother sent him to a methodism school and there his teacher put him the name of Mandela.

He studied law in Fort Hare University and Witwatersrand University.

When he lived in Johannesburg he involved in the anticolonian policy, so he joined to the African National Congress. In 1948, he won prominence in the campaign of the challenge of 1952, he was chosen as the regional president of the African National Congress in the province of Transvaal and in 1955 he chaired the Popular Congress.

But in 1962 he was arrested and accused of life imprisonment by conspiracy to overthrow the government.

But international campaigns fought for his liberty and in 1990 he left the prison, so he only was there 27 years.

Next in 1994, he joined Frederik of Klerk and the African National Congress won the South Africa elections and he became the first person of black race to be South Africa’s president.

He died in Johannesburg in 5th December 2013.The next day, important people like Barak Obama and Ban Ki-moon went to Johannesburg to Nelson Mandela’s funeral .
