Montana completed 12 pases in 22 attempts, threw for 223 yards, scored 3 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. In 2006, Ringgold renamed their football stadium "Joe Montana Stadium."

    When the 1977 season began, Montana was the third quarterback, behind Rusty Lisch and Gary Forystek. In their third game of the season, Notre Dame played Purdue. Lisch started and was replaced by Forystek. In one play, Forystek suffered a broken vertebra, broken clavicle and severe concussion and would never play again. Montana entered with 11 min. left and down by 10. He threw for 154 yards and 1 touchdown and they won the game. Montana was now The Quarterback and they won their next 9 games.

    Cotton Bowl game against Houston. Montana had the flu and received warmed IV fluids during halftime and also drank chicken soup and went back into the game in 4th quarter. Notre Dame ran their last offensive play with 4 seconds on the clock. They scored a Touchdown and wond the game 35-34.

    In the 1979 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Montana at the end of the 3rd round and he was the 82nd overall pick. Montana was the 4th quarterback taken in the draft. He was behind jack Thompson, Phil Simms and Steve Fuller.

Final 38-35. This was the 1st 4th qtr comeback in Montana's NFL career. In his 16 seasons, he had 31 4th qtr comebacks and 26 were with 49ers.49ers finished 6/10 Montana passed for 1795 yards and 15 Touchdown passes and only 9 interceptions.

    The Catch49ers hosted Cowboys in NFC Championship game. 49errs got ball with 4:54 left, Dallas led 27-21, ball on 49ers 11 yard line. 49ers moved ball to Cowboys 13 yard line. 49ers faced thrid down at Cowboys 6 yard line. Montana took the snap and ran to his right. Make an off-balance pass to back of the end zone where WR Dwight Clark made a leaping catch and they tied the game. Ray Wershing kicked the extra point and they won 28-27.
