Jimmy Carter was born on October 1, 1924 in Plains, Georgia. His father, Earl Carter, was a peanut farmer, and his mother, Bessie Gordy, was a nurse. He had three siblings: Gloria, Ruth, and Billy. Carter is the first president to be born in a hospital. His full name is James Earl Carter, Jr.

Some people who were against the Shah of Iran were mad that Carter supported him. They were very negative about the United States, so they decided to do something. On November 4, 1979, 66 American civilians were taken hostage in Iran. A little later, 13 of them were released. The remaining 53 were captured for 444 days.
