    James Earl Carter
    James Earl carter was born October, 1 1924 in Plains, Georgia. He grew up as a farm boy in Archery, Georgia. He used the fields to make money for the family. He went to school in Plains, Georgia.
  • Rosalynn Carter

    She was on born August, 18 1927. She grew up with four siblings. Two boys and two girls. Her dad died of Leukemia when she ws thrirteen.She married Jimmy Carter in July,7 1946.
  • College Life

    From 1942-43 Carter attended Georgia Institue of Technolgy. In 1943-46 he attended the United States Naval Academy. He was a great student and very intelligent. He loved to read.
  • Graduation

    Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946. He was one one of the top ten in his class. He signed on and worked in the Navy's first experimental nuclear submarine.
  • Navy

    He was on the U.S.S. Mississippi. He was a canidate for a scholarship. He was promoted to lieutenant for navy. On December, 7 1961 transferred to be retired reserve.
  • Peanut farm

    After his father's death he owned the peanut farm. He took over in1953. They lived in public housing. First president to live in public housing.
  • Governor

    He ran for governor in 1966 and lost. In 1970 he won against Governor Sanders. In 1971 he declared discrimination is over. He put a picture of MLK Jr. in his office.
  • Announces run for presidency

    Carter announced that he was running for presidency. He began a two year campaign. At the Democrate convention, he was nominated. He was nominated on the first ballot and chose Sen. Walter Mondale as his running mate.
  • Presidency

    Carter invited egyptian president to Camp David. He got a formal peace treaty in 1979 form Egypt. In 1980, he tried to rescue hostages, but helicopter brokedown and failed. One reason he didn't get re-elected because of the hostage situation.
  • Department of Energy (DOE)

    Department of Energy signed into the the lat the Dept. of Energy Organization Act of 1977. This is a part of the government concerned with energy and safety in nuclear material. It is responsible for the nations nuclear weapons program. It is located in Washington, DC.
  • Taft Act

    Carter has the Taft Act to end a strike of coal miners was passed by Congress. It is really known as the Labor Management Relations Act. It is suppose to benefit all parties to a labor agreement ---all parties--the employer, employee and unions.
  • Carter loses presidential election to Regan

    President Carter and Walter Mondale lost to the Ronald Reagan and George Bush. Republican President Reagan won the election and much speculation was held by the people and politicians over the reasons. Some reasons may be due to the Iran hostage crisis and due to the bad economy. Republicians won the senate for the first time in 28 years.
  • The Carter Center

    Funded and started by him and his wife, the Carter Center began in 1982. This is not a government organization. It works to advance human rights. It is located in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Presidential Medal of Freedom Award

    President William Clinton awarded Pres. Carter and former First Lady with the highest civilian award in the U.S. It is called the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award. It was started by President Truman when he was in office.
  • Nobel Peace Prize

    Earned this recorgnition for his "untiring efforts to find peaceful world-wide resolutions. The Norwegian Nobel Commmittee gave him this award due to his hard work in trying to make peace and promote economic and social development and human rights. They said that despite all his power, he still stood by the right principles.
