June 1918, Germans hammered at Allied lines. They pushed the Allies back 40 miles of Paris. Now, it looked as if Germany might win the war.

June 1918: The AEF helped turn back a German offensive at Chateau-Thierry on Marne River east of Paris. For the next 3 weeks, American forces fought their way through the forest against a solid wall of German machine-gun firing. Americans and French fought back German attacks on Allied forces and stopped the German offensive. This fight turned the tide of war.
