    The beginning
    3 ships sailed into the Deep Bay. They cleared land and built Jamestown. Captian John Smith was the leader of Jamestown for 1 year.
  • Powhatan Tribe

    Powhatan Tribe
    The Native American tribe "Powhatan" captured John Smith. There was a lot of fighting because the Colonists would steel the Powhatan's crops. Pocahontas kept John Smith from being killed.
  • Colonists Dying

    Colonists Dying
    More than 1/2 the colonists died the first year. The land was not good for farming. No one bothered to gather food. John Smith made a rule tht if you don't work, you don't eat.
  • Exploring the Atlantic

    Exploring the Atlantic
    John Smith left Jamestown to explore the Atlantic coast. Pocahontas' husband John Rolfe was a leader too and brought tobaco plans for the Colonist to grow and sell.
  • Enslaved People

    Enslaved People
    The first Africans were brought to Jamestown. They became enslaved people. Their hard work helped Virginia. They were hardly ever freed.
  • Colonists vs. Powhatan

    Colonists vs. Powhatan
    More Colonists took over more Powhatan land. This started several years of fighting because teh Powhatan tried to defend their lands
  • KIng James I

    KIng James I
    Because of the Powhatan and Colonist fighting, King James I made Virginia a Royal Colony. The King now owned the colony and picked a governor who shared the power.
