  • James Gatz will no longer settle

    At this point in his life, James Gatz decides he no longer just wants to be the son of two unsuccessful farmers. He alienates himself from his parents and sets out in search of a life of wealth and success.
  • Name Change

    In search of a new life of success and wealth, Gatz decides to change his name in order to fully sever any ties he had with his parents as he does not want to follow in their footsteps and wishes he were not related to them.
  • Meeting of Dan Cody

    Newly named Jay Gatsby meets with Dan Cody. Dan is a man of wealth and respect. He allows gatsby a glimpse into what living the rich life is like, and once gatsby has had a taste he swears hell be back for more after being left with more thirst for wealth.
  • Death of Dan Cody

    5 years later after they met, Cody passes away. He intended to leave gatsby a seizable inheritance but Cody's wife gets in the way and uses legal manners to take away the inheritance from Gatzby leaving him without a dime.
  • Meeting Of Daisy

    After being stationed at Camp Taylor, Gatsby meets Daisy near Louisville and almost immediately falls in love with her. He began dating daisy and did so until he was sent off to fight in WWI.
  • Gatsby sent off to war

    After being enlisted in the army, Gatsby is sent off to fight in World War I, leaving behind daisy and all of his past.
  • Gatsby acquires wealth

    During the war, Gatsby gets his first major opportunity to make money. He is offered an alcohol bootlegging job by Wolfsheim. This job was the start of Gatsby's money-making.
