    Jacques-Yves Cousteau was born on the 11th of july 1910 in Sent Andreus de Cuzbac, France. He died on the 25th of july 1997 due to natural causes, he suffered a heart attack.

    He wanted to become an aviator
    On 1935 he signed up for the navy in order to become an aviator, but due to a car accident he couldn't. Moreover, he wouldn't have been accepted because he had a heart disease since he saw little, that was what originally made him swim bevause the doctors told him it was good for his healt, and years later with his swimming skills he started working as an oceanographer.

    Until 1936 Cousteau was not interested in the underwater world, but Tailliez, who was an underwater hunter, lent him some Fernez glasses, predecessors of today's pool goggles. Cousteau immediately tried them on the beach of Mourillon and he saw some fish passing over moss-covered rocks, tand since that moment he decided that he would dedicate all his life to explore the seabed.

    Aqua-Lung was the first open-circuit, self-contained underwater breathing apparatus to achieve worldwide popularity and commercial success. The Aqua-Lung was invented in France during the winter of 1942–1943 by two Frenchmen: the engineer Émile Gagnan and the Naval Lieutenant Jacques Cousteau.

    On 1950 Thomas Loel Guinness bought Calypso (Calypso was a former British Royal Navy Minesweeper converted into a research vessel for Cousteau) and leased her to Cousteau for a symbolic one franc a year. On 8 January 1996, a barge accidentally rammed Calypso and sank her in the port of Singapore.
