Jackson and the Bank

  • Charter of the Second National Bank.

    It was created to help regulate bank notes from these individual state banks by using gold and silver instead.
  • Panic of 1819

    A majority of banks started to recall loans and wanted payment. This was also part of the Bank Crisis of 1819
  • Specie Circular of 1836

    President Jackson had declared that payments for public lands be made with gold and silver. He found that the only real form of currency was gold and silver. It affected the other banks since they did not have much hard currency.
  • Panic of 1837

    This was a deep financial depression that occurred and had many people lose jobs and many different prices for goods fell. The reason for this was the rise in debts for state banks and and inflation and the booming industry lead by Jackson.
  • Election of 1840

    The Whig Party in which William Henry Harrison won but later died due to a cold. This lead to the vice president to take over in which he disregarded the plans of the Whig Party and many people were upset with this decision.
