John's parents owned a grocery store. When his parents died, the siblings had to take over the family business. His older brother Alex made it go down to the ground, and the Wilson's were known as bad people.

Jack makes the decision to leave Polly and his family and head for Canada. His decision was based off the fact that his family had become a disgrace and he needed a fresh start. "So ashamed and aggrieved Jack Wilson left his quiet village in the pastoral Clyde Valley. In Liverpool, he boarded a steamer headed for Canada". Pg.11

World War I began after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. It was a domino effect of countries going to war with each other. The end result was every country went to war. It ended November 11th, 1918.

After attempting to join with the war efforts, and getting denied. John headed over to the RNWMP where even though his physical health wasn't the greatest they still let him in. This was his first permanent job, which was supposed to last him his life.

John and Polly have a baby girl named, Helen. John was not there to help support her. Polly almost died from giving birth to Helen.

In the summer of 1917 John wasn't feeling 100 percent so he decided to go to the doctors.The doctor told him that he had tuberculosis. "I'm sorry to have to tell you, Jack but you have TB." "Yes ninety-nine percent positive it's tuberculosis." Later on John became very sick. He had one person who helped him out during this time, Jessie Patterson. After her taking care of him he fell in love with her. John says, "Home was wherever Jessie was." John stopped writing to Polly and the love was gone.

After working in Blaine Lake, and having been diagnosed with tuberculosis, a close family friend took John into her heart and nursed him back to health. Because of the special bond they formed John fell in love with her completely ignoring his family back home.

The Halifax Explosion happened when a Norwegian vessel collided with a French cargo ship carrying explosives. This caused a huge explosion that killed approx. 2000 people.

Hogmanay is a Scottish tradition where they celebrate the last day of the year. The Hutchinson's celebrated this tradition. This is also where Polly tells her family that she is going to go to Canada to find John.

After having some suspicions due to Johns absences Polly does a little leisurely snooping, there she found a love letter from another woman in John's coat pocket.

John proposes to Jessie through his letters. He wants to marry Jessie even though he is still with Polly.

Polly makes the brave decision to travel to Canada. After going almost a year without hearing from John, Polly figures that she'd head to Canada and hopefully she would find John healthy and alive but even if she didn't then at the least she'd have closure.

A couple days after finding John in Canada she became pregnant with her third child. John didn't even treat Polly like a husband after hearing about her pregnancy.

John packs up and moves him and Polly to Saskatoon because of his new job. He also moved Polly out of their place in Regina because she began to make too many friends which would spark interest if Polly were to suddenly disappear or lose contact with them.

Before taking Polly for a drive, John heads to a store and buys a marriage license for him and Jessie.

John wrote a letter to Polly saying that he bought a house in Saskatoon for them to live in. "I think you will like this place better than Regina.." The next day she packed her things and met up with John. John told Polly that they were going to Blaine Lake to tell Jessie the truth. On the way he shot some birds with his shotgun. He then shot Polly in the head with it. "The top of her head was gone, blood spurting everywhere.." Polly was gone and John was lost in his mind. "Go somewhere..."

After John kills Polly he thought of a plan to burn his car to get rid of the evidence.

The day after John murders Polly he heads to Blaine Lake to marry the love of his life Jessie.
