McCandless learned that he should bury all of his belongings before entering Houston because his money got stolen from him. He digs it back up before leaving Houston. -
Detrital Wash, Az
McCandless decided to camp in the desert. He was doing fine until a flood started and he had to leave. His car wouldn't start at that time so he had to take his things and abandon the car. -
Lake Tahoe
Since McCandless had to abandon his car, he had to hitchhike up to Lake Tahoe, which took quite a while. -
Red Bluff, Ca
McCandless goes off the radar for a while as he hikes in the Pacific Crest and lives off the land. -

This is where McCandless meets Jan Burres and Bob. The couple decided to give McCandless a ride to where they were going, and McCandless ended up camping with them for a few days, growing close to the couple. -

McCandless decides to follow Wayne back to South Dakota and accept a job working in a grain elevator that Wayne offered him. McCandless ends up working there for several months. -

McCandless hitch hikes with a truck driver to Needles, where he ends up hiking along the Colorado river. -
Topock, Az
McCandless ends up walking all the way to Topock. When he got there he ended up buying an old canoe and decided to sail down to Mexico. -
Parker Strip, Az
McCandless ended up getting off his canoe for a while and decided to track some wild horses. By now McCandless has learned that he was a free spirit, which led him to trespass on government property. -
Yuma, Az
McCandless was getting close to the Mexico border. This is where McCandless bought more supplies and sent a postcard out to Wayne back in South Dakota. -

McCandless ended up back on his canoe and ended up getting lost in many river canals. -
El Golfo de Santa Clara, Sonora, Mexico
A couple of hunters found McCandless lost and gave him a ride to El Golfo de Santa Clara. This is where McCandless gets caught in strong winds and has to seek refuge in a cave. After many days McCandless leaves and decided to ditch the canoe and continue on foot. -
San Diego, Ca
McCandless ended up getting caught trying to cross the Mexico border back in the US and ended up having to stay a night in custody. They eventually let McCandless go but not before taking his gun. -

The man ended up giving McCandless a ride to San Diego, only for McCandless to call later askind for a ride back. -
