    The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty that punished Germany for their actions in world war 1. Because of the treaty of Versailles Germany had to pay for the war, Disarm their army, lost overseas colonies and full guilt for the war.
  • January 1920 - The league of Nations is created

    The league of nations was created for peace. The weak point of the League of nations was that some of the major powers they asked didn't join them. The main idea why the League of Nations was created was to prevent another world war.
  • June 1925 - Benito Mussolini becomes dictator

    June 1925 - Benito Mussolini becomes dictator
    Benito Mussolini was the president and dictator of Italy, He was the first dictator to become a fascist dictator. Mussolini terrorized and scared the people and the king into allowing him to come to power.

    The Great Depression started when the stock market crashed in 1929. Millions of people were unemployed and most nations economics were in trouble. This allowed dictators like Hitler and missolini to take power in Italy and Germany.
  • September 1931 - Japan invades Manchuria

    Japan was experiencing an economic crisis like the rest of the world from the great depression. Japan invaded Manchuria due to their lack of resources such as coal and iron. Japan invading Manchuria proved that the League of Nations was ineffective against stopping wars and fights.

    January 1933 - Adolf Hitler is appointed Chancellor of Germany
    Hitler was appointed to chancellor in hopes to stabilize Germany's chaotic political climate. After Hitler was appointed he seized control of Germany and began rearming Germany's military. He established Germany into a fascist dictatorship with him as the leader.
  • October 1935 - Italy invaded Ethiopia

    October 1935 - Italy invaded Ethiopia
    The invasion of Ethiopia by Italy was led by Benito Mussolini in hopes of gaining valuable resources and establishing an Italian empire. This was the second failure of the League of nations.
  • March 1936 - Germany reoccupied the Rhineland

    March 1936 - Germany reoccupied the Rhineland
    Germany was not allowed to enter Rhineland after the first world war because of the treaty of Versailles, Hitler violated the treaty and Germany marched their way into Rhineland. The league of Nations was no use and Hitler started his violent expansion.

    Hitler believed that Austria and Germany should be one because they are both German-speaking, so in violation of the Versaille agreement again hitler occupied austria with little stop him.

    hitler wanted to take over Czechoslovakia next in his expansion. Hitler and Mussolini both entered into an agreement with Britain and France that allowed Hitler to occupy some of Czechoslovakia known as the Sudetenland

    Hitler and the allies agreed to sign the Munich agreement, and soon enough Germany occupied all of Czechoslovakia. This was a violation of Munich agreement.
  • September 1, 1939 - Germany invaded Poland

    September 1, 1939 - Germany invaded Poland
    After Germany occupied Czechoslovakia, he moved on to take over Poland. He made an agreement with Joseph Stalin of the soviet union and divided Poland in half for the two countries. Soon after the agreement was signed and Poland was split Germany took over all of Poland. This move violated the Munich agreement and made it clear that the policy of appeasement of hitlers aggression failed.

    September 3, 1939 - Britain declared war on Germany
    After all, efforts to try to maintain peace with Germany failed Britain realized it had no choice but to stand up to Germany's aggression. Britain made the choice to declare war on Germany and world war 2 had began.
