    A scare that started in America just a few weeks before has spread to Europe. Countries like Gemany, Italy, and Athens were doing the best they could to help calm the public and control the maddness. In Germany, they set up a hot-line to answer the public's questions. In Italy, celebrities offered vegetarian recipes to give the public some sort of alternative. In Athens, butchers closed their shops until they were certain their meat was disease-free.

    President Bush's speech declaring that America had joined forces with UK to launch aerial attacks on Al Qaeda and its bases was aired world wide. On December 13, 2003, American soldiers arrested Sadam Hussein without any troubles. He was hung for his involvement in the 9/11 disaster. By 2005, 2,000 soldiers had been killed in the Iraqi War.

    VideoOn Feb 1, 2003, the space shuttle Columbia fell apart as it came back into Earth, killing all 7 members on board. NASA suspended space missions for two years as they investigated the cause of the disaster. After the investigation was finsihed, they found it was a piece of styrofoam that had fatally got in the wing of the space shuttle. NASA got a lot of heat from the Media and the US Congress, who threatened to shut down NASA.

    The al-Salam Boccaccio '98 went down in the Red Sea, about 50 miles off the coast of Egypt. It was carrying 1,380 people, and only 114 survived. Rescue boats and helicopters were the only way of rescuing the survivors, until the Royal Navy sent the warship HMS Bulwark. It took a day-and-a-half for the boat to get to the crash scene.
