  • Brown Verses the Board of education

    Brown Verses the Board of education
    The supreme court over throws the original ruling that separate is equal and makes school segregation illegal.
  • Title IX

    Title IX
    Makes it illegal for schools to discriminate based on gender.
    "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance..."
  • Lau v. Nichols

    Lau v. Nichols
    law that mandated schools offer second language learners assistance in learning English as well as full participation in all activities. The extent and nature of the assistance is still in debate.

    gave the tribes the ability to run thier own schools, freeing their youth from blatant assimilation
