    The United States annexes Hawaii
    The economic link from America to Hawaii has last almost a century. Americans first came to Hawaii in the 1790s where they established schools, churches, and plantations. In 1897 congress officially proclaimed Hawaii as Us territory. I chose to put the United States acquiring Hawaii on the timeline because it was an important event in American history. This increases America’s land, and tells to story of who Hawaii became part of the United States.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    In December 1898, Spain and the United States signed the Treaty of Paris. This officially ended the Spanish American War. Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the pacific islands of Guam were given over to America, and the Philippines were sold for $20 million. The Spanish American war was. Great War with a big impact on the US. I chose the Treaty of Paris because it marked the end of they war. This document also official gave America control of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippians.

    The United States goes to war with Spain. During the war the Yellow Press influences opinions greatly. Many Americans are enthusiastic about the war, and sign up for battle. America wins, and acquires Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and Guam. I chose the Spanish American War because it had a great impact on the United States. It increased Americas influence in other countries and their world power.

    Guerrilla War

    The Filipinos began to rebel against the Americans rule and relied on guerrilla warfare. The civilians were put into overcrowded concentration camps by US soldiers, and many troops died in the war. William Taft became governor of the Philippines, and started their journey of recovery. I chose to put the Guerrilla War in my time line because it was a very important event in ImperialismTime. This war greatly affected where the Philippines and United States are now.
  • Boxer Rebellion

    Boxer Rebellion
    Foreign Missionaries were killed by boxers, and foreign diplomats districts were besieged in May 1900. European, American, and Japanese forces all attacked the Chinese capital to stop the boxer rebellion. During the rebellion Americas open door policy was enacted. I chose to put the boxer rebellion in my timeline because it had an impact on America, and many other countries. It greatly affected China’s relationships countries around the world.

    The Foraker Act was passed by Congress in 1900, this created a civil government in Puerto Rico. After, do US government had a court case to decide the rates of Puerto Ricans. After decided the Puerto Ricans were not happy with their rights and protested. I put the Foraker Act in my timeline because I believe it was important to America’s history. This Act showed the United States aggressive role in Latin America, and the impact it had on other countries.

    Platt amendment
    The Platt amendment restricted the rights of the Cubans, and didn’t allow them to do many things like sign treaties. The Cubans did not like the Platt amendment, but the United States would not risk removing the amendment. I put the Platt amendment on my timeline because I believe it had an impact on the United States and Cuba. This amendment put America in high authority over Cuba, and the Cubans were very restricted.

    After a failed attempt, by the French in the 1800s, to connect the Atlantic to the Pacific, America give it a shot in 1903. They bought the route for $40 million and built the Kanau through panama. America made an agreement with Colombia them to give some of the profits. This was a big feat of engineering for America, and that is why I put it on my timeline. The Panama Canal also became a big place of revenue for the United States.

    “Big Stick” Diplomacy
    After America’s success in the Spanish American war Roosevelt began to develop a border policy for US action in Latin America. The big stick diplomacy depended on a strong military to reach the United States goals. Roosevelt thought that America needed to Uplift the weaker nations. I put the big stick diplomacy on my timeline because I believe it had a big affect on other countries views of America. The big stick diplomacy showed many other countries how powerful America was.

    Russo-Japanese War

    In February 1904 Japan unexpectedly attacked Russians stationed in China, and this attack was followed by many more. Japan and Russia both suffered from many losses. In 1905 Roosevelt helped bring peace between the Russians and the Japanese. I believe this is important to the imperialist era of America because it helps so just how much of a world power the US was. Helping end the war between Russia and Japan set a precedent for America.
