I Survived: the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906

  • Before earthquake starts

At 7:00 in the morning, eleven-year old Leo Ross sells newspapers in the busy streets of San Francisco. It is just the same as any other day. A kid named Morris wants to be his friend but he talks too much.
  • Earthquake starts

Suddenly, the ground starts to rumble. Buildings started to sway, walls crumpled, and houses crashed down, Broken glass, wood, and piles of bricks tumbled into the streets. Leo tried to scream but, his throat was coated with dust. He wanted to run, but he couldn't even stand. Dozens of bricks showered down down from above. soon, he would be buired alive.
  • Fires start

Huge fires start and everyone is extremely scared. Families huddeled together and babies screamed. People complained to soldiers but the soldiers can't do anything about it. Dust filled the air. Fire Fighters tried to put out the fire but the quake broke their water mains so there is no water.
  • trying to escape the fire

A pick pocket, who is also a bully named Wilkie suddenly becomes kind-hearted and helps Morris and Leo escape. They run towards the alley, chasing after Wilkie's friend, Fletch. Fletch was Wilkie's friend until he left him under a pile of bricks.
  • Morris is in Danger

Morris ran ahead of Leo and Wilkie to an alley. he does not know it is dangerous but Wilkie does. He tells Leo that there is no way out so they should not follow.Leo knows he has to save Morris.
  • Thinking of an Idea

Whenever Leo has a problem, he thinks of his courageous Grandpop. This time, he thought of what his Grandpop did in the Forest Fire of Sierras. His Grandpop was stuck in a ring of fire made by lightning. The heat was so strong the metal on his belt started to melt. He had no idea what to do so he got down on his hands and knees. Down low, the smoke wasn't as thick and he could see where he was going. He crawled into a unsuspected stream. He soaked himself in water and ran through the fire.
  • Doing What Grandpop Did

Leo then told Wilkie to get down on his knees and together they crawled to where the horses were kept and dipped themselves in their water along with a blanket. Then, they put the blanket over their heads and ran through the fire to get Morris. They only found Morris' head. they thought his head had been chopped off but he acually just fell through a hole. They pulled him out and ran.
  • Leaving Fletch Behind

Inside a building, they found Fletch. Wilkie thought Fletch had left him for dead under a pile of bricks so he dragged him outside and left him there. He stormad off with Leo and Morris following.
  • Fire Stops

Leo, Morris and Wilkie get to the Sacramento Station where soilders hand out food. Leo buys Wilkie a ticket to Seattle. Leo and Morris watchad his train disappear and bought some cold bottles of milk and hot rolls. They were going to find Morris' cousins in New York City.
  • What Happened at the End

Thousands of people had been killed but Leo, Morris, and Wilkie made it out alive. They were very brave to escape the san Francisco fire on thier own. I wouldn't have done that.
