David, a young boy, was held as a P.O.W. in a concentration camp in Bulgaria. One night when the guards were switching, David escaped with the help of an old man. The man told him that after he got over the wall where he could find a bag of items that would help him survive on his journey to Denmark to find his mother. -

Davids Lovely Start
After travelling for a few days, David finally arrives in Italy. In Italy he sees all the beautiful people and the breathtaking scenery. In the concentration camp there was never anything happy. No flawless people, no children smiling, laughing or playing. Everything he was seeing was new to him. -
Glimpse Of Happiness
David met an American couple. The couple gave him money. While staying with the Americans he found a mirror. When he lokoed at himself in the mirror he realized how other people saw him. He cut his hair so that he could blend in with the citizens around him. Since he had to travel during the day, he would need to look as much like the other children as possible. Also he tried to smile. -
Rescued The Girl
After the Amercian couple had thrown David out, he met a beautiful young girl named Maria. Maria was trapped in a fire when David came after her to save her. Maria's family had thanked David and said that he could stay with them for as long as he would like, in return for saving their precious daughter. -
Delayed Love.
After a few weeks of staying with Maria and her family, David became very compassionate towards Maria. But after David over heard Maria's parents talking about David and how Maria's mother had noticed that David is unlike other children. He doesn't play games like the children, and he doesn't talk like a child, also she had noticed David's eyes. He has the eyes of an old man that give off the impressio longer wishes to go on living. He has the eyes of a boy who longs to be loved. -
The Truth
David realized that the man in the camp had loved David's mother, that's why he helped David. Also, when he realized that, he was sitting by himself in a cruel farmer's shed. After a few weeks of staying there, David and the farmer's dog grew very fond of each other. When it snowed enough he dug a tunnel through the snow and escaped. The dog, who's name was King, had followed him away from the farmer. -
Alone
After David left he was staying in a city. He was making money by carrying peoples bags to and from the trains. While he was making money he found a news paper with an add in it. The add was a letter from Maria's family asking David to come back and stay with them. He couldn't go back, even for Maria because his journey was to find his mother and that is what he would continue to do. -
Mother Atlast
After many weeks and months of travelling, David finally found his mother when he arrived in Denmark. Sadly, his mother did not get to meet King, because on there way to Denmark, King jumped infront of David, protecting him from a gun shot.
