    In 1971 Chavez entered the Venezuelan Military Academy in Caracas. He did not go there to be a soldier, but to be a pro baseball player, there were good coaches there. But in 1975 he was not able to become a pro and had to graduate the military academy at the bottom of his class, he was mad.

    In 1982 He met the leader of the Venezuelan Revolution Party and formed the Bolivarian Movement. Their goal was to make all the citizens fight for the insurgents. Most citizens agreed.

    On February 4th, 1992, Chavez and a group of military officers worked together to overthrow the government of Pres, because everyone realized that the president and the government were very politically bad and the government made too many mistakes. Unfortunately, the rebellion collapsed. Most commanders did their part, but Chavez could not capture the president, we swore one day he would.

    Later in 1994 he was imprisoned because the president saw his popularity. Due to the threat of civilians, he was dropped out. The Venezuelans were happy to have their Bolivarian Leader back. He started the Movement of the Fifth Republic.

    This time without war, in December 1998, he was able to run for president, and won with 57% of the votes. He took office in February 1999. His approval rating reached 80% in the first year, and put an end to corruption. And in his first year, he really upped the oil business.

    By the year 2000, Hugo Chavez wrote a new constitution, one ,renaming the country, The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, two. Making a mega-election for each elected official in the country. (It would be a six year term, he won again), and three infinite number of times one can run. He also increased his power in the National Assembly, and made the law that the president could implement a law by decree.

    Bye 2001 though, stuff was getting hasty. He tried to put Venezuela down the same path Fidel Castro had done with Cuba (In 2001, Venezuela had 2 parties) Then due to the the attacks on 911 he prohibited oil to the United States, Iraq, Iran, and Libya. Then in 2002 his approval rating dropped to 30%, and there were many anti-chavez walks. Then many of his allies and some of his military, ran against him.

    On April 11th 2002 many protestors started a riot and captured Chavez. On April 13th 2002, they decided Pedro Carmona to be president, but feared he would be a dictator, so they put Chavez as vice president (they forced him to change his ways). Then on April the 14th, 2002 they put Chavez as president.

    Then in February 2003, more protests were made, this time it was about oil. So the oil companies (PDVSA) workers (which is 80% of total export). But then Chavez took the opportunity and took control of PDVSA.

    They were going to make a referendum to get Chavez out early, but with PDVSA at his side,they were able vote no in August, 2004. Though he did get better, he did learn from his mistakes with oil and fixed the PDVSA even better.

    Then on December 2005, the protests began to corrupt. There were less and less of them. Chavez started to think differently, he would help the people, and that won him president that year (67% of votes)

    In December 2006, he would push ahead the “21st century socialism”, by nationalizing industries including electricity. But with this, now he was able to talk “trash” about the USA with no protests now. He would call George W. Bush, the Devil.

    In 2007 Chavez sponsored a package to change the constitution, but first he needed a referendum. And he noted, one thing would be good for the crowd, less work hours. Though the for the first time, Chavez was defeated, the referendum lost by 2%.

    In February 2009, a more moderate of the package to change the constitution was made a referendum. This time, it was passed. Though this gave the government more power. After he gave a speech of the constitution. (Not classified what was changed)

    Then on March 5, 2013 Hugo Chavez died. A reason for this is because of a tumor, and old age. This everyone knew he would die soon because he did not go out in public much in 2013.
