Marcus Garvey (Kim)
Garvey was a Jamaican man who came to the U.S. to raise money for a school in Jamaica. Garvey was surprised to not see any dark-skinned people working for the NAACP, so he created his own organization in Harlem called the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). Garvey realized the growing power of biracial Americans and wanted his organization to focus on the beauty and global culture African Americans bring to the workforce. -

Brown v. Board of Education, 1954 (Kim)
This court case is the reason why we go to diverse schools and universities today. This case resolved the issue of racial segregation in public schools and ruled that it was in fact, unconstitutional. -

This event marked the starting point of equality for genders in sports it bars sex discrimination in education programs and activities. -
Serena Williams Nike Commercial is Released (Kim)
In this commercial, Serena Williams is the face and voice of a bold commercial presented by Nike. William's wanted to send a message to female athletes encouraging them to break cultural barriers, defy gender norms, fight for equal opportunities, and show their emotions. This commercial features many other strong female athletes as well -- so inspiring.
