How the FA helps develop sport in the UK

    The FA was formed on October the 26th in 1863. Central to the creation of the Football Association and modern football was Ebenezer Cobb Morley had met up with the captains, secretaries and other representatives of a dozen London and suburban clubs playing their own versions of football met “for the purpose of forming an Association with the object of establishing a definite code of rules for the regulation of the game”.

    The first match of the FA was played between Barnes and Richmond at Limes field in Barnes. This match ended 0-0. This was massive in this period because the rules for football were being shown in a practical game. This lead to more games being used with the rules by the FA and that meant football became a more fair sport and become bigger.

    This was a massive day in The FA as it the rivalry between England and Scotland was cretated. This was massive as it gave people of England or Scotland to brag about their country, this would of lead to youngests wanting to follow their heros in football and it would lead to the sport becoming bigger in the country and more opportunites for children to become a footballer. This is what the FA intended to get more people into the sport and wanting to get more people involved.

    The announcement of the birth of ‘The Football Association Challenge Cup (The FA cup). At a meeting held in the offices of The Sportsman in London on 20th July 1871, a proposal by FA Honorary Secretary Charles Alcock. This meant that teams had something to challenege for and it meant that more people would see football not only as fun but also competitive which was good for the FA because more teams would follow the rules they used to try and be the best team in the country

    The first FA Cup matches ever played all took place on Saturday, 11 November 1871. The scores were Upton Park 0 Clapham Rovers 3, Crystal Palace 0 Hitchin 0, Maidenhead 2 Marlow 0 and Barnes 2 Civil Service 0. This made football massive in England because it meant that competitions came into play and it gave everyone involved a hunger for winning, furthermore it lead to more people getting involved in the sport in UK because they wanted to win the FA cup which at the time was massive

    They decided that football need to be more regular and competitive in England. This led to the creation of the football league in 1888 by Aston Villa director William McGregor. Only teams from Lancashire and Midlands took part around this time.

    In 1891 a Liverpool engineer created John Brodie created 'a huge pocket' what we know as the football net. This was huge for football because it made football a much easier game for when it came to scoring goals and seeing if it went in or not. Then the first game to be played with nets was on 1891 and the ref that day was the man who invented shin pads Sam Widdowson. The invention of shin pads was massive for the game and still is today because it gives players that extra protection.

    The 1930 FIFA World Cup was the first major footballing tournament around the world to be held. It was held in Uruguay because the country at the time was celebrating its first Constitution. This was massive for the build of football because it meant that more people saw that football was becoming a big thing in the world and that sporting wise it had a lot to offer. However the FA did not elect England to take part but it did show that a lot was to come with England.

    The BBC started its television service in 1936, although it was nearly a year before the very first televised match of football was screened – a specially-arranged friendly match between Arsenal and Arsenal Reserves at Highbury on 16 September 1937. This was followed by the first televised international match, between England and Scotland on 9 April 1938, and the first televised FA Cup final followed soon after, on 30 April the same year, between Huddersfield Town and Preston North End.

    The 1939-1940 season was the 65th season of competitive football in Enlgand. However the World War started something which affected football in England as players signed up for the army and games became abandoned. This affected football hugely because loads of teams lost players and it affected the way football would be played for next 5-7 years with teams just allowing field guess to take part

    This was massive in football because of the first champions league tournament in Europe which meant it would show teams around England and Eurpoe who is the best at football in Europe. It gave players and people who supported teams that enjoyment of facing teams they haven't faced before and the FA knew it would make English football better because the teams can learn new things and see how European teams play.

    This was huge for England and the FA because it was the year that England brought football home for the next 4 years. With the tournament being held in England already it gave England the chance to show that they can be the best country in the world but a huge factor of this was the things it done for football with younger people who just wanted to be like their idols and it gave football all over the UK a massive improvement.

    Trevor Francis became Britians first million pound player in 1979 when Nottingham Forrest brought him. This showed the FA that skill witching English football was improving vastly and it showed them that all the hard work over the number of years meant that they could make football in England bigger with the help of clubs providing more English talent and giving them a chance.

    The pass back rule was changed for the sake of the game because the bodies of FIFA and the FA relaised that the game became to easy and was starting to become slow paced meaning that the game was losing skill. So what the bodies done is made the pass back rule an offence in football and if it happened the opposition would get an indirect free kick. It help football so much because it made the game quicker and more skilful with the likes of out field players and keepers.

    A home-grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21).They did this because the FA want to get more English talent through the ranks and give them more of a chance in footballs highest levels.
