    Birth
    Born on May 4, 1796 in Franklin, Massachusetts, Horace Mann was born into a farm-oriented family and wasn't allowed the privilege of top of the line education.

    Education and Early Career
    Mann enrolled into Brown University at 20 years old and eventually attended Litchfield Law School which was instrumental in his admittance into the bar at Dedham, Massachusetts. He then was elected into the Massachusetts legislature where he expressed his interests in education and many different forms of charities.

    Mann was appointed secretary of the Board of Education of Massachusetts. He formally renounced his duties from politics and traveled to every school in the state and did extensive examinations of each facility and prepared report that stressed the importance of education. Mann made the decision for Schools to have a secular nature in that school systems would not stress religious attributes to students. Created first state board of education.

    Mann started a journal known as "The Common School Journal" that stated the main problems with public school systems. It stated problems such as the ignorance of the public and that they should take interest in and help improve education

    The Free Soil Party nominates Mann for governor's position in Massachusetts and selected as president of Antioch College which was newly built in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

    Mann died on August 2, 1859 in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Even though it was the end of his story, his legacy lived on, leaving his impression on the education reform. He also had many places such as schools and statues built in his accommodation.
