    The french and indian war also called the seven year war was a long territorial dispute about land in the united states and canadian area. France had begun to expand into the area of Ohio river valley which led to protests and claims of ownership of the land from britain. The battle ended with Britain gaining control of Canada from France and Florida from Spain, but they gave up Louisiana to spain....

    ...This war was very important to our independence since the territory gained by Great Britain eventually became the lands that we settled on as colonists, so if this war never happened then the colonies would most likely be smaller than they were.
  • Albany plan of union

    Albany plan of union

    The Albany plan of union was decided on in 1754 and was about trying to make peace with the native iroquois tribes. This happened because if they didn't decide to make peace with the native tribes it would've ended in a war between them and Britain at the time since they still owned the colonies. This was important to our independence because if a war started we could have lost all the land of the colonies to the native tribes during the war.

    Proclamation of 1763:

    The royal proclamation was a proclamation issued by king george III, This happened on October 7, 1763. The proclamation built a base for governing the colonies that were given to Great Britain after a war between France. This event is important for our independence or helping us get independence since it established us, If this never happened then there would be no independence to gain.
  • Sugar Act

    The sugar act happened in 1764 and was the first tax imposed on us by the british government. The act caused many items such as sugar, coffee and some wines to be taxed when purchased now. The sugar act was important to our independence because it was the first example of what britain was going to try to continue doing in the future, and helped develop the initial resistance against british rule
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    The stamp act happened in 1765 and was a tax issued on the colonies from Great Britain and it taxed the colonists on all paper documents issued in the colonies. The reason Britain did this was because they were still in a large debt from the seven year war with France and saw the colonies as a chance to earn that money back. This event was important to our independence because the taxing would just continue to get worse and the laws even stricter.
  • Quartering act

    The quartering act was issued on March 24, 1765 by Great Britain on their American colonies, this act made it so that the colonists had to shelter any soldiers stationed there in their homes if they asked and had to provide food, clothes, and a place to sleep for them. This act was important to our independence since it was another example that great britain was just going to create more annoying laws if they were left in power over us.

    The boston massacre happened on March 5, 1770, It started with a riot about the large amount of british housed in the town or just around in general, and it led to the british open firing on the crowd which resulted in the death of 5 civilians. This was very important to our independence since it helped the colonists realize that Britain was going to be a tyrant ruling over them. It also helps since they wanted to make up for the injustice of innocent people being killed.

    The tea act & boston tea party

    The tea act basically gave the british east india company a total reign over tea being sold to the colonies, which earned them a lot of money and upset the colonists alot. The tea act led to the boston tea party, which was a group of people in the 700’s dressing up in disguise and dumping 90,000 pounds of tea into the harbor in rebellion, this act and tea party were very important to our independence because it was the final straw about whether or not to fight for independence,

    it made the colonists realize that if they continued to stay under Britain it wouldn't get any better and they would end up even worse with more and more taxes.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The intolerable acts happened in 1774 and were made to address the defiance of their colonies by britain. One bill closed the Boston port, The second one got rid of the Massachusetts charter, the third one was to punish British officials who let the defiance happen basically, and the last one was the quartering act. All of these acts were important to earning our independence because it truly gave us a clear view on how bad Britain was and how bad it would be if we stayed under their rule.
  • First continental congress

    The first continental congress Started September 5th and ended October 26th in 1774. This congress had representatives from all 13 colonies and happened because they wanted to talk about what to do with the British Empire's growing aggression towards the colonies. This was a very important event in earning our independence because it was the first time that we officially got together to talk about the problem at hand...

  • Lexington and concord

    Lexington and concord are towns located in massachusetts, and on April 18, 1775 a few hundred british soldiers marched over to concord to take over the colonists gun supplies but paul revere and a few other colonists rode around the town waking everyone up so that they can fight the colonists. There was also a confrontation on the lexington green which led to a colonist victory and the british retreating....

    ...These battles were important because they helped us keep a hold on our supplies and also helped boost morale in our militia by winning against the british in an impromptu battle
  • Fort Ticonderoga

    Fort Ticonderoga is located in northeastern New York and has access to the Hudson River valley and canada. On May 10, 1775 Benedict Arnold, The green mountain boys, and a handful of other people attacked the fort during dawn and took over the fort with a small fight. This was a very important fight because taking over this fort allowed us control of the hudson river to a certain extent which could cut of british supplies.

    Battle of Bunker Hill

    The battle of bunker hill happened on june 17, 1775 during the revolutionary war between the colonies and Great britain. While the colonists ended up losing the battle, they inflicted major casualties onto the British and despite the loss it was still a source of motivation for them when taking over boston. This battle was very important to our battle for independence because it was in the middle of our war for independence and also provided major morale boosts for our troops.

    Common sense by Thomas Paine

    Common sense was first published anonymously by Thomas Paine in january of 1776. This pamphlet was very important in the earning of our independence since it clearly helped show what Britain was doing and helped rally more people to fight by changing their minds about what's really happening, so the piece of writing was a very important piece to our independence.

    The second continental congress happened in 1776 and was to help declare independence against Britain in big steps, this led to the articles of confederation being made which eventually led to the declaration of independence being made and enacted. This was very important to our independence since it really confirmed our independence and established it to all of the world.
  • Evacuation of Boston

    The Evacuation of Boston happened on March 17, 1776, It was when george washington successfully got fortifications up, and had gotten cannons facing the city from the south, this caused all the british soldiers to evacuate the city, This was a takeover of the city from british control and proved important for us because it was a major city at the time and had a lot of resources for us to earn our independence.

    Declaration of independence

    The declaration of independence was the first time that the colonies decided to tell the British empire that they wanted their own government formally. This was decided in mid-june of 1776 with a group of 5 people including; Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and more. The Declaration was formally accepted by the government in the now United States. This was important to our freedom since we formally declared it, so it played a big part.
  • Battle of Brandy Wine

    The battle happened in brandywine and was one of the biggest battles during the revolution with other 30000 soldiers fighting in an area miles long. This battle happened on September 17, 1777 and was very important to our independence because even though we lost the battle it still proved to france that we were strong and ready to fight the british with all the strength we had, which eventually led to us gaining their support in the war against britain

The battle was the last battle of the revolutionary war and helped Washington earn his place as the first president of the United states.
