Minamoto was the founder of bakufu and was son of Yoshitomo. At the age of 12 he recieved his first court title and not long after he was appointed the administrator. Minamoto won the cilvil war against the Minamoto clan and the Taira clan that lasted 5 years (1180-1185). This major civil war was known as the "Genpei War". His son tried to overrule him and brought the war to him.
