    The start of a new era had begun when a reporter from the The Ottawa Citizen stumbled upon a group of women playing hockey. This reported the skaters moved very "swiftly" and that the women could compete with the men. The daughter of Lord Stanley of Preston, Isobel Stanley, was the first women to be photographed playing.

    In December of 1997, Team US beat Canada in the Four Nations Cup in Lake Placid, New York. The final score was 3-0. That was the first time that Canada has ever been scoreless.

    1st Olympic Gold Medal for Team USA
    History is made when Team USA takes the win agaisnt Canada to take home the 1st Olympic gold medal ever awarded in women's ice hockey. The final score was 3-1.
    Gretchen Ulion, Shelley Looney and Sandra Whyte were the women who made those goals for Team USA. The first Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award was handed out to Boston University forward Brandy Fisher. Patty Kazmaier-Sandt was a four-year varsity letter-winner for the Princeton University ice hockey team.

    Falls to Canda once again/Aj Mleczko
    In March 1999, The national women's hockey team fell to Canada at the IIHF Women's World Championship. The final score was 3-1. That was the fifth time that U.S lost to Canada in the gold medal game. A.J. Mleczko then recieved the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award in 1999. She got it because she had the best scoring season in the history of women’s college hockey in 1998-99 with 114 points.

    1st female coach of the Olympic Team
    Julie Sasner was named assistnant coach for the US Olympic Team and National Team. She was the first female member of the coaching staff for the Women's Olympic Ice hockey team. Then she spent two years with the team in preparation for the 2002 Olympics.

    USA defends World Titile
    In 2009 at Hameenlinna Finland, The U.S. Women’s National Team once again made history by successfully defending its world title. That was for the first time ever at the IIHF Women’s World Championship.
    That win gave US the No.1 Ranking in the world.

    In 2010, there was the Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. Sadly Canada won 2-0. But it was the largest crowd for a women's hockey game ever. There was 16,805 people.
  • The Canada/US saga continues

    The Canada/US saga continues
    The U.S. Under-18 Team attended the IIHF U-18 World Championship. They went undefeated in the preliminary round outscoring opponents 25-0. In the semi-finals we beat Czech Republic 10-0. But we fell to Canada once again. 2-1 in overtime in the gold-medal game.
