Arabic scholars translated Greek works to create their versions, with scientific, entertainment and philosophical understanding. In the middle Ages, these works were translated again into Latin provided by the Renaissance Academics in Spain.

St. Jerome (347-420) was a young priest. He translated the Bible from Greek and Hebrew to Latin. His translation became the Official Catholic Translation of the Bible.

Translation became essential to teach an SL/ FL. Was named the G-T Paradigm ( grammar-translation) to understand another language. Focused on learning grammar rules and vocabulary. (Greek to Latin)

Gaspar Antonio Chi (1531-1610) An Indian Interpreter from Yucatan., Mexico. Who interpreted between Spanish conquers and Mayan.
Chi had a great knowledge of Spanish, Latin and Maya languages. -
Sacagawea( 1788-1812) An interpreter and guide from Shoshone Tribe. She helped Louis & Clark through their expedition into the American West. She was a skilled guide and woman from the 18th Century.

Alexander Burnes( 1805-1841) A British interpreter born in Scotland. Became spy for the Military. The British Government entrusted him with important surveys He was knighted by the Crown in 1839.

Mark Twain (1835-1910) An American author famous for important novels like Tom Sawyer's Adventures & Huckleberry Finn.
His most important translation work was a funny version in English from the French story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County". Twain decided to respect the word-order in French, he did not modify the structure. -
Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) was a skilled author and also a translator. He translated the work of Oscar Wild " The Happy Prince" into Argentinian Spanish when he was only 9. During his life, Borges translated the works of Edgar Allan Poe, Franza Kafka, and Virginia Woolf.
