George Washington was selected the site for the Presidents House consulting architect James Hoban. Washington was the only President that didn't sleep in the White House

Buring of the White House

Aug 24, 1814

British Troops invaded the White House. They entered an empty house, ate dinner, then burned the House down.

Remodling

Oct 20, 1902

Roosevelt took office after the assassination of McKinley, Rooselvelt obtained congressional appropriations totaling $475,445 for repairs,refurnishing, and new construction.

Fire in the West Wing

Dec 24, 1929

President Hoover hosted a party for children of the White House. A fire caused by an overheated flue broke out in the West Wing attic.

East Wing
