  • ADA Americans for Disabilities Act

    The ADA becomes law. creating a group of laws prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities. The ADA is still in affect to this day from educational disabilities to services rendered to disabled individuals.
  • Engel Vs. Vitale

    1962- The supreme court rules that no State or Public school could not impose a state prayer on students. Thus, contradicting the 1st amendment of the constitution.
  • Coral Way Elementary School

    1963- Due to the growing Cuban population, Coral Way started the first bilingual and bi cultural elementary school in the Nation. This became the start of a new revolution where kids did not only have to speak the same language and also became an out reach to other immigrants.
  • "War on Poverty" - Project Head Start

    This program reached out to low-income families or families of children with disabilities who needed assistance. This program was started my president Johnson and has continues on today. The program starts with per-school education, nutrition, and parent assistance.
  • Pulic Law 358

    This not only helped education is helped veteran, farmers, and home life. Families began to have hope for a better future. Soliders were coming home and the outlook of the nation was grime. This law gave people hope, that their children would be able to execl in life with a better education and monetary assistance for the home life.
  • McCarver Elementary School

    1968- Magnet Schools became an option. Instead of only following one specific criteria of curriculum. Schools like McCarver started expanding their curriculum by add extra classes in the Arts, STEM, Montessori. Thus began a new type of school later leading to the charter schools.
  • Mills vs. The Board of Education

    This ruling gave way to alternative methods of teaching for students with special needs. Many students today succeed due to this case. Those who may have not been able to complete an education now make it possible for them to attend classes and complete assignments with minimal to no help.
  • Columbia University

    As one of the last Ive Leagues to do so, Columbia became the final Ive league institution to accept women into their undergrad program and become a coed university.
  • University of Pheonix

    As one of the current leading Private schools in the nation. University of Phoenix is known for the Online Undergraduate and Graduate Program. This option created a new avenue for working individuals to gain a higher education level and created a push for the next option in higher education.
  • The Strike "Red for Ed"

    Beginning with West Virginia Teachers, to Arizona Teachers, and LA Teachers. Go on strike protesting their pay and benefits. This may have stalled bit it will continue.
