The Emergency Immigrant Education At provides funds and services to offset the costs for school districts that have large numbers of immigrant students. It's important for all children to go to school. By having funds set aside for children not born in the country it is an assurance that they are provided the same opportunities that all the other children in the States get. -

The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program is instituted which gives students under specific circumstances to attend at no charge. American children with immigrant parents and children of minority backgrounds might need help financially for schooling. As a diverse country it is important that all cultural backgrounds are awarded the same opportunities to combat discrimination. -
Passing of Proposition 187
California voters pass prop 187 which denies benefits such as public education to undocumented aliens in California. Children are brought to countries illegally by their parents, and have no say in the matter. They should not be held accountable for actions in which their parents chose by denying them an education. The proposition was eventually overturned. -

James Banks is considered the "father of multicultural education." His research on education and how they can improve relations with race and ethnicity has been very influential in schools, colleges, and universities. -
Meredith Vs. Jefferson County Board of Education
Meredith sued the school district for violation of the Fourteenth Amendment by racially classifying high school students. The court found that the enrollment plan to be unconstitutional under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. When people don't stand up for their rights, progress cannot be made towards cultural integration. -
Alabama and Immigration Status of Students
Alabama becomes the first state to require public schools to check the immigration status of students. Law doesn't require schools to prohibit the enrollment of undocumented children. By the state deciding to do so anyway just shows discrimination for children of various backgrounds. They didn't choose to come to this country illegally and they should be awarded education regardless of their parent's actions.
